East of I-35, north of East Howard Lane — Blackhawk and the “Pfamily” side of town.
Troops Mowing is holding down lawn duty in Pflugerville, TX — “Pfamily” territory, as the locals proudly call it. Same alkaline clay and limestone base as the rest of our service area, mostly Bermuda grass with some St. Augustine lawns thrown in, but Pflugerville brings its own mission: more tree cover than anywhere else we serve. We’ve covered yards throughout Blackhawk and other local neighborhoods, and we’re always happy to Pfestive it up during the annual Pfestival of Lights.
We service the parts of Pflugerville east of I-35 and north of East Howard Lane. Bermuda doesn’t love shade, so in Pflugerville leaf removal isn’t just tidying up — it’s tactical, clearing the way so your grass can actually breathe and grow instead of getting choked out under a canopy of live oaks.
Pflugerville’s mature tree cover is the defining condition here. Bermuda thins out under shade; St. Augustine tolerates it better. Where a yard is mostly canopy we’ll tell you honestly what the grass can and can’t do, keep the leaves off it so it gets what light there is, and set the cut height for the grass you actually have.
The same heavy, high-pH clay as Hutto and Round Rock — it holds a storm, then cracks in a dry July. Weed & feed works here as a timed program: pre-emergent before the soil warms in late January or early February and again in September, fertilizer in between.
St. Augustine lawns in Pflugerville show yellow, crispy patches in summer that are often bug damage, not just drought. Under trees the two are easy to confuse. We watch for it on every mowing visit.
Central Texas doesn’t have a dramatic fall foliage season, but live oaks drop leaves heavily in late winter and early spring, and cedar debris is a real issue after wind events. In a tree-heavy town like Pflugerville that means leaf and debris removal any time of year — and where the volume allows, mulching the leaves back in as natural fertilizer.
July and August in Pflugerville bring watering restrictions and heat stress from the dry spell. Then from December through February your grass clocks out for dormancy — we don’t. Winter weeds like burweed and poa annua take over open space in dormant, browned-out lawns, so our Troops shift to bush trimming, weed removal and winter prep while the turf sleeps.

This is an update to my previous 3 star review. Dylan reached out and apologized and wanted to know how to make things right. Today he came out and spread the compost I ordered over my front yard and also some cedar mulch that I wanted on top of that. I am very happy/satisfied with his wanting to makes things right and making it happen. I have changed my review to 5 stars. Dylan and the two young guys that came out and did my yard are very pleasant and professional. How to do yard was talked about in great detail - the what to do and the what not to do. There seems to have been no communication. The guys were to take away a bunch of the leaves but not all so that the remaining leaves could be mowed at the highest level so that the leaves could be "mulched" and stay in my yard. They were unaware that they were to leave enough leaves to mow over so I would act as mulch. We specifically talked about me not wanting my yard to be all dirt after they mowed. That they should use the highest setting to mow. The website says that the 1st mowing of grass should not be more than one third of the height. Instead the setting was at the lowest possible leaving very short sparse grass and my front yard looks like a lot of dirt. I'm having to have a whole lot of compost delivered so it can be spread over my front yard. Then the monkey grass liriope that has lilac blooms that were around one of the trees was all mowed down to the ground. This cost me a lot of money. I told Dylan I didn't mind the price if the work was done as it should be. Was sad about this because they all seem so great, so nice, so professional. Am needing my back yard done now. Will see if they will come out and will hope there is better communication.
Troops has been taking care of our yard for many years, and i have nothing but positive things to say. They’ve completed several different jobs outside of regular maintenance and everything always turns out great. Kyren is always a pleasure to work with, and the entire crew is fantastic.
Excellent service and professionalism! I’ve been using Troops Mowing for my regular mowing and weed control, and they’ve consistently done a fantastic job. Recently, I also had them quote and complete a cleanup of my flower bed — the results were amazing! The team was very professional, kept me updated throughout the job, and took extra care with the details. The biggest improvement was in the white pebble area where weeds had grown in between the stones — they cleaned it up thoroughly and made it look brand new. They also refreshed the mulch around my trees, which tied everything together beautifully. Highly recommend their services for anyone looking for reliable, professional, and quality lawn care and landscaping work!
